Our Community

As one of Christchurch Ōtautahi’s oldest family businesses, we are deeply connected to our local community. For generations, families have trusted us with their most important moments, and we see our support of community groups as a way of giving back.

We’re proud to back organisations that bring people together, encourage creativity, and make life richer for everyone in Christchurch and North Canterbury.

Involvement in Our Community

  • Local Bowling & Golf Clubs
We enjoy supporting local sports clubs in Canterbury with funding and gear. Seeing people out on the greens, playing, laughing, and sharing time together makes us proud to be part of this community.

  • The Court Theatre
The Court Theatre is New Zealand’s largest theatre company. It brings joy, laughter, drama, and inspiration to the people of Christchurch — and we’re glad to stand behind it.

  • Community Music Groups
We enjoy supporting local sports clubs in Canterbury with funding and gear. Seeing people out on the greens, playing, laughing, and sharing time together makes us proud to be part of this community.

  • Canterbury Rugby Union
The CRFU was founded in 1879 — just two years before John Rhind was established. Supporting another Canterbury institution with such a long history feels like a natural fit.

  • Kaiapoi Community Food Forest
With the motto “growing food, growing community”, the Kaiapoi Food Forest is a green space designed to connect, nourish, and inspire. It’s a place where people can learn, share, and be part of something positive.

Speaking with local groups

We are always delighted to visit local schools, clubs, and community groups to talk about funerals and the work we do. These conversations often bring clarity and understanding, helping people prepare for life’s hardest moments. We can host your group at our premises or come to you.
